Emergency Services provides emergency medical care to all patients presenting with
an emergent, urgent or a non-urgent condition(s).
The Duke Emergency Department (ED) is a designated Level 1 Emergency Department
and Trauma Center staffed and equipped to provide initial stabilization and emergency
care to critically ill adult and pediatric injured patients. Included within the
department is a dedicated Pediatric Unit, Psychiatric Unit, Trauma Unit, Clinical
Evaluation Unit, and a four-bay Triage area. The Emergency Department staff has
been built on a foundation of teamwork with the goal of providing excellent care
to every one of their patients.
Life Flight
Duke Life Flight is Duke’s critical care transport program, providing emergency
air and ground transport to all of North Carolina, as well as portions of South
Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. North Carolina’s first hospital-based
helicopter service, Life Flight has been transporting critically ill or injured
adults, children, and neonatal patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, since
1985.
Life Flight staff are dedicated to quickly getting patients to the appropriate medical
facilities when time and/or specialized skills or resources are vital to their outcomes.
