Charge Nurse
The Charge Nurse functions as a permanent shift charge nurse for a unit or ward, and provides direct care to patients with physical and/or mental disorders. Interested candidates must first complete the Charge Nurse Program, and undergo a validation of required skills.
- Nurses are eligible to participate after 12-18 months service within the Duke Medicine system
- Compensation = $2.00/hour additional
Preceptor Program
The Preceptor Program at Duke Medicine prepares participants to serve in an array of vital roles, including coach, teacher, facilitator, resource person and evaluator. Interested candidates must first complete the Preceptor Program, and undergo a validation of required skills.
Prior to participation in the Clinical Rotation portion of the program, candidates will meet with learners to discuss the clinical experience and identify strategies for achieving learning objectives.
During the Clinical Rotation, you will:
- Facilitate the learner’s introduction to the clinical setting
- Act as a clinical expert and role model, sharing experiences and knowledge
- Provide clinical supervision and consultation to the learner during the clinical experience
- Meet with the learner regularly to discuss progress towards the achievement of established learning objectives
- Provider the learner with feedback on patient assessment, clinical decision-making, communication of findings and written documentation
- Inform the faculty advisor of any problems arising from learner placement
- Nurses are eligible to participate after 12 months service within the Duke Medicine system
- Compensation = $1.00/hour additional
