Assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath/EP Lab specializing in the care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent placement, IABP placement and EP devices and ablations. With increased experience provides resource and mentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhanced technical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures to treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Communicates continuously with the physician about the patient's condition.
May perform any of the following: Basic diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Basic interventional procedures which may include any of the following: PTCA, stent prep and placement, IABP placement and operation. Basic EP procedure may include any of the following; EP studies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD, BIV ICD and ablations.
Procedural requirements: Room preparation and breakdown to include stocking rooms, daily QC checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, and room cleanup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type.
Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring.
Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the electronic health record and enter into hemodynamic and X-ray systems.
Operates all physiologic and radiographic equipment safety and correctly. Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, gloves).
Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and after the procedure including post-procedural limitations and restrictions.
Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.Cardiothoracic/Cardiology
