Clinical Lead, RN- CT SDU, unit 3100, Durham NC 27710 

The Clinical Lead functions as an assistant nurse manager/team lead in supporting the nurse manager with operations of the unit with 50% clinical and 50% administrative responsibilities. Cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or telemetry experience is preferred.  We are interested in hiring staff with three or more years of nursing experience. Work Hours & Shifts

Full time (40 hrs/week).  Scheduling requirements are flexible (varying shift lengths, 8-, 10- 12-hr shifts) and will include day shift/off shift hours. 


Job Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include all those required of the CN II

Consult with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to provide support and determine how orientation should proceed on an individual basis. Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new employees. Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that all CBO and CBE requirements for staff are current.

Collaborate with the manager and different departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab, environmental services, clinical engineering, materials management) for issue resolution and projects to improve workflow processes throughout the department utilizing a proactive approach. 

Collaborate with the nurse manager during the interview process for new applicants. Mentor/coach staff to enhance their professional development. Assesses the performance of assigned new hires and orientees including entry-level nurses, nursing care assistants and health unit coordinators; provides ongoing feedback and coaching.

Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs to entire staff on a regular basis. Provides immediate support and education on policy, procedures, equipment and supplies. Responsible for learning, implementing and teaching new technology/procedures.


Demonstrates awareness of current problems and basic plan for all patients within assigned area. Provides clinical consultation and guidance as needed to facilitate patient care. Gives assistance and/or direction to staff to facilitate quality patient flow.

Assess staffing needs according to workload and staff competency; Re- assigns and adjusts staffing based upon patient care needs. Delegates responsibilities within the scope of practice and validated competencies in order to meet the workload demands of the shift. Facilitates assignments that support learning for the orientees or nurse learner.


Promotes an atmosphere of open communication that facilitates staff input into decision-making, resolution of conflict, and collegiality among all health team members. Communicates in an effective, professional manner. Plan and assist with coordination of unit staff schedules and submit for manager approval.

Conducts biannual staff performance evaluations. Reviews and comments on forwarded SRSs related to their unit. Facilitates and encourages staff participation in departmental and hospital committee and council meetings. Attends departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned. Coordinates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projects.


Minimum Qualifications


3 years of nursing experience - preferred Cardiac, ED, or critical care


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications


Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. BCLS certification is required.
